Co-parenting with a narcissist is one of the most difficult challenges a survivor can face. Unlike survivors who can go no contact after leaving, those who share children with a narcissistic abuser are forced to maintain some form of relationship with them for years, sometimes decades.
The narcissist often uses the children as tools to continue controlling and punishing you. They may use custody arrangements, visitation schedules, and communication about the children to create conflict, drain your resources, and keep you trapped in their orbit. They may try to turn your children against you. They may undermine your parenting. They may use every interaction as an opportunity to provoke a reaction.
