She remembered the beginning. She remembered the way her heart would race when she saw his name light up her phone. She remembered the way her stomach would flutter when he walked into the room. She remembered the way her skin would tingle when he touched her, the way her breath would catch when he kissed her, the way her body would respond to his in ways she had never experienced before. The passion was overwhelming. It was intoxicating. It was all-consuming. She could not get enough of him. She wanted him constantly. She thought about him obsessively. She craved him desperately. And she believed, with all her heart, that this passion would last forever.
But it did not last forever. The racing heart slowed. The fluttering stomach settled. The tingling skin became accustomed to his touch. The passion did not disappear entirely. It just changed. It became less urgent, less consuming, less overwhelming. It became comfortable. It became familiar. It became routine. And she began to wonder if something was wrong. She began to wonder if she had fallen out of love. She began to wonder if the passion was gone for good.
